KENINGAU: Repair work on parts of SMK Sepulut affected by serious erosion has started a year after these sections were closed off.
Students and teachers have not been allowed into the dining hall and a block where the male dormitories are located since last year because the structures were in danger of collapsing at any time.
A grant of RM6 million was approved instantly by the principal secretary of the Ministry of Finance when officials visited the school recently.
The appointed contractor said the erosion was due to a weak foundation that gave way easily.
“We are putting in stronger steel piling to reinforce the foundation. Once the job is completed the dining hall and dormitories will be safe enough to be used,” he said.
